Four Plus Six

(Jazzline JL 11144-2 )

Four plus Six is a project developed by composer/arranger/producer Harald Banter and the german radio station WDR over several years.
The bandleader assembled some of Germany`s top jazz musicians for sessions at the best recording studios available in the area around Cologne and gave them room to develop ideas which were not directly commercially usable.
The musicians include the six-piece rhythm section the legendary keyboard player Rainer Brüninghaus as well as pianist Vladislav Sendecky, bassman Thomas Heidepriem, drummer Willy Ketzer and guitarist/singer Peter Fessler as well as vibraphonist Matthias Haus. The 4 in the title represents the reeds.
The music is sometimes experimental and somtimes straight jazz or jazz-rock with a very unique twist - and in one case singer Peter Fessler, who became famous with the pop-group "Trio Rio" shows that he can handle latin jazz as well as straight pop.

  1. St. Thomas ( classic Sonny Rollins arranged for the group)
  2. This Is Not 4 U (jazz-rock tune)
  3. Separated Twins (piano - vibes duo)
  4. Lisboa (latin tune)
