CAROLA GREY - Girls Can't Hit
LIP 8945-2

After two more or less traditional jazz album CDs which establish
her reputation, this is the first electric funky album of the
drummer/composer.
Of course this doesn't do justice to the music - which can be
compared to "Blow by Blow" and "There And Back" from the musical
concept, but has it's own sound.
The musicians are partly American, partly Germans - and form
Carola's steady european band.
- Martin Kälberer - keyboards, piano
- Rick Keller - sax
- Werner Neumann - guitars
- Paul Koji Shigihara - guitar and guitarsynthesizer on "Aspects
Of Eve"
- Ina Stock - English Horn an "Golden Boy"
- Paul Tietze - bass (ex Gianna Nannini)
The tunes (marked links are realaudio sounds):
Check out the guitar solo on "Bits and Pieces" - it is one of my
favorite guitar soli of all times.
- Bits and Pieces 6:02 - two examples: melody
(ca. 40 KB), guitar solo (ca. 65
KB)
- Aspects Of Eve 6:45
- Golden Boy Greets Buddha 7:06 (ballad, 45
KB example from melody - a bit more then 30 s.)
- The Search For Taco 5:34
- 3/3/3/5/5/5/4/4 2:57 - (drumsolo with indian spoken vocals,
sound example from the middle of the
solo)
- Girls Can't Hit! 5:53 (Brecker brotherish.., example
from melody. 30 KB)
- It's All Good 5:31
- Don't Play It Again, Sam! 5:20
(very funky, even though the melody comes from an older hard-bop
composition of carola)
- Room 201 3:16
