JAZZLINE CD catalogue
Jazzline is the "acoustic" jazz
label of Alex Merck Music. Most of the music is based on hardbop -
but some artists like Peter Materna, Charlie Mariano, Dieter Ilg or
Christoph Stiefel draw their inspiration more from classical music,
New Age or other influences. The common factor is that there are
almost no electric instruments used (well, there are a few tunes with
electric bass and guitar on Carola Grey's second album) and the music
is real jazz, not funk- or rock-influenced.
The criteria for choosing musicians for the label were:
- long-term potential
- personal style with something personal distinguishing the
musicians from everyone else
- excellent recording quality
- a broad experience in playing live
Warning to musicians: We get too many tapes and
proposals each week, while we only bring 4 to 6 albums to the public
each year and most of them are by our already signed artists. If you
are a new musician who can play standards very well, please do not
send us any material. When you start making music that is jazz, but
sounds completely different (and not just because of your instruments
sound) while still being music for non-musicians to listen to and
enjoy - then we could be interested (if you perform live on stage a
lot).
