JIM BEARD

As one of New York's most established keyboarders and producers, Jim Beard has toured worldwide with Pat Metheny (in 1992), John McLaughlin (1986), Wayne Shorter (1986 - 87) and John Scofield among others and composed songs for most of these people. He also worked with saxophonist Bill Evans, bassman Dieter Ilg on the LIpstick-album "Summerhill" and both Michael and Randy Brecker. He is also one of the top producers in jazz today - and two of the albums he produced have been nominated for the "Grammy Awards": "Back Roads" by Bob Berg (1993) and "Is What It Is" by Mike Stern (1994).

He uses Alesis ADAT recorders, a Apple Mac with Performer-Sequencer and Mackie mixers in his home studio, but usually goes to big commercial studios for the live recordings and mixing of albums he produces. During the first months of 1995 he has worked for Didier Lockwood and Mike Stern - and will start playing keyboards for a new album by John McLaughlin later in April 95. His production philosophy is to bring out the character and specific ideas of the musicians he works for. He also collects old synthesizers.

He has recorded two solo albums so far:

SONG OF THE SUN (CTI-Records, 1991, charted in the Billboard Contemporary Jazz salescharts for 20 weeks)

with guests Wayne Shorter, Micheal Brecker and "Toots" Thielemans

Lost At The Carnival (Lipstick Records, 1995)

with Jon Herrington (guitars, harmonica, percussion), Bill Evans (sax), Scooter Warner, Mike Mechem, Billy Ward (drums), Ron Jenkins, Steve Rodby (bass), Stan Harrison (woodwinds)
