Jeff Richman - Last Arrival

(Lipstick LIP 8940 )

Jeff Richmans second album on Lipstick is the consequent development of his strong personal style, which could be heard on "The Blue Heart".
The music integrates bebop, latin and rock influences. On the new album many tunes were influenced by Richmans work in film scoring - and two new recordings of classic compositions:
Both are tunes that have fascinated Richman for a while - and he finally feels good enough to record his own versions. Like Herbie Hancock and several other musicians he is returning to the roots of the "jazz standards" - taking popular tunes, creating original versions and improvising on the basis of good melodies.
The title track "Last Arrival" is very much influenced by the film-scoring experience. It was co-written by Phil Giffin and "is meant to create a visual landscape" with your eyes closed." as Jeff Richman put it in an interview with the german guitaist magazine "Gitarre and Bass". Close your eyes, relax and enjoy the audio-movie!
The musicians: Peter Wolf is an austrian born Wunderkind. Upon arrival in the USA in the late 1970s he directly joined the Frank Zappa Band and stayed with Zappa for over 4 years. He can be heard on "Joe's Grarage" and several other other classic albums from that Frank Zappa period. He then went on to become one of the top session keyboard players in Los Angeles and can be heard on countless albums before becoming one of the top producers worldwide (with over 60 Million albums sold so far) . He produced : Jefferson Starship, Santana, The Who, Chicago, Pointer Sisters, Wang Chung, Paul Young , Heart .. as well as many others.
Phil Giffin is one of the top film composers and TV music composers. He orchestrated the "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon" series of movies. Add to that countless TV movies ( his "bread and butter" jobs) - and you have one of the top composers today, even though he is hardly known outside of the industry circles.
Dean Taba was born in Hawai and is well-known in the Los Angeles scene for his very wide range of styles. He plays with the funk-fusion group Kilauea.
Joel Taylor , originally from Wyoming, is one of the most popular drummers in Los Angeles. He appeared with Allan Holdsworth, Bobby Caldwell, Jeff Lorber, Eric Marienthal among others.
