Simon Phillips is one of the worlds most reknowned and respected
drummers today. Born in London, England, Simon's professional career
began at the early age of twelve, when he started performing and
recording with his fathers dixieland-style band until he turned
sixteen. He went on to work for Pete Townsend, Mick Jagger,
Stanley Clarke and many others and became a member of
Toto.
From the beginning Simon Phillips' musical career has been nothing
short of brilliant - and was not limited to playing drums.
To date he has recorded and toured with many bands and artists
including:
- Mick Jagger
- The Who
- Pete Townsend
- Jeff Beck
- Jack Bruce
- Tears For Fears
- Judas Priest
- Roxy Music
- Michael Schenker
- Heaven 17

- Al Di Meola
- 801
- 10cc
- Human League

- Dave Gilmour
- .. and many others
Simon has also produced a number of other artists and co-produced and
engineered three albums with British composer Mike Oldfield:
Crises, Discovery and Islands.
As a composer, Simon has contributed to Jeff Beck's album There And
Beck, John Wetton's Voice Mail and Steve Lukather's album Candyman as
well as the instrumental tunes of TOTO.
In 1992, following the tragic death of Jeff Porcaro, Simon was asked
to join TOTO for their world tour, and has now become a band
member.
In 1993 he moved from England to Los Angeles, where amongst
worldwide engagements he also plays with "Los Lobotomys".
Symbiosis
his second album as a solo artist was released on Lipstick Records
in the fall of 1995 - and has since then developed into one of the
most popular albums of our label. While often characterized as an
instrumental rock album, it has also charted for several months on
the german Jazz-Charts between November 1995 and June 1996.
The album is original in its style - but picks up where the
jazzrock of Mahavishnu Orchestra left off - building on the linear
melodic traditions and often odd meters combined with the pure energy
of rock - but integrating new influences as well as bringing a
saxophone into the explosive mix.
As musicians you find a.o.:
- Mitchel Forman - keyboards (also on Lipstick as a member of
the group METRO, with Bill Evans group "Petite Blonde" and with
his solo album "Hand Made"
- Sheila E. - timbales
- Mike Porcaro, Anthony Jackson, Jimmy Johnson, John Pena -
bass
- Chris Trujillo - perc.
- Ray Russell - guitars
- Wendell Brooks - sax
