Dieter Ilg is one of the leading bassmen worldwide - and has toured and recorded with most of todays jazz-superstars - including Randy Brecker (in Randy Brecker's acoustic band), David Liebmann, Nguyen Le, Danny Gottlieb, Jazzpana, Charlie Mariano a.o.
After several albums as a co-leader or leader Ilg decided to start a very particular project in 1997, which would take melodic material from european traditional folklore and use them as the basis of modern jazz playing in a trio setting. In the beginning he experimented with both a piano and a guitar trio - which resultet in the album "Folk Songs", which received worlwide acclaim with great reviews even in "JazzTimes" and was voted best european jazz album of the year by "Music&Media", the pan-european radio&music magazine.
Fieldwork is the further development of this concept - and concentrates on the guitar trio, which also played over 40 concerts so far in Europe including several Festival appearances.
The group consists of Ilg on bass, Wolfgang Muthspiel (guitars, courtesy of Verve/Polygram) and Steve Arguelles (drums, loops).
All songs traditional - and arranged by Dieter Ilg except 8 (arranged by Steve Arguelles) , 7 and 9 (arranged by Arguelles, Ilg & Muthspiel).
Winter Ade is a live remix by Steve Arguelles - made on the fly with loops and recordings
